Biography

Indianapolis businessman Ron West purchased El Dorado Country Club in Greenwood, Indiana in 1987 and founded Royal Oak Country Club in its place. Construction to increase the size of the existing clubhouse and a major golf course renovation project quickly followed.  Since 1987, the quality of membership has continued to improve.  Royal Oak maintains a highly intensified golf course maintenance program, as well as fine dining and lounge facilities.  The club was renamed Royal Oak, and was converted from a semi-private club of 186 members to a private club with 400 members today.

In 1993, R.H. West Management Corporation assumed control of Indianapolis’ nine-hole South West Way Golf Course.  In 1997, the construction of an additional nine holes was completed and in 1998, a new 11,200 sq. ft. clubhouse was constructed.  Renamed Winding River Golf Course, R.H. West has invested over $1,500,000 in capital improvements in this highly successful public - private partnership with the City of Indianapolis.

In February, 1998, R.H. West entered into a lease agreement with the Plainfield Elks Lodge in Plainfield, Indiana to manage and improve their golf facility.  In the first season of management, R.H. West remodeled the pro shop, paved the cart paths and implemented a massive water relief program.  Lakes were dredged and redesigned, a vast network of additional drainage was installed and overall quality of play was increased dramatically. The course, renamed Oak Tree Golf Course, has increased sales in each of its first five years under R.H. West's direction.

In September of 2001, Cypress Run Golf Course, a nine hole course in Franklin, Indiana, was added to the R.H. West portfolio.  The course had been neglected for some time and in it's first year under R.H. West ownership the course generated sales over 300% above the previous year.  Cypress Run GC is located in a growing area between Franklin and Shelbyville on State Road 44.  Improvements to the young facility are ongoing and an additional nine holes is being considered for 2006.

In March of 2002, La Fontaine Golf Club was added to the portfolio.  La Fontaine is a charismatic, 18 hole layout built in the late 1920's and has been the golfing heart of the Huntington community since.  La Fontaine ran into troubled times under it's previous ownership but still remained in the hearts and minds of the community who had left it to play other, better maintained facilities.  Within weeks of closing, R.H. West had begun a full-scale renovation project including new asphalt cart paths, a new irrigations system and a variety of significant upgrades that brought the Huntington community back to the facility.  The course that had long been home to generations of Huntington natives is thriving again under the ownership of R.H. West Management.  In 2002 sales increased dramatically year over year and in 2003 the course is poised to have it's best financial year ever.

In 2006, R.H. West was hired as operations management for Eagle Glen Golf Course in Columbia, City.  The company is excited about the opportunity to help Eagle Glen regain it's status as an elite golf course facility in the Fort Wayne and surrounding areas.  The bent grass course was built in the late 1990's and has a great deal of potential for sales growth in the immediate future.

In 2007, the company sold Royal Oak Country Club to concentrate on pursuing management and consulting contracts with gold course operators across central Indiana.
